The Manitoba Library Consortium Inc. (MLCI) has engaged Nordicity, an independent consulting firm, to lead a Manitoba Libraries Needs Assessment. This project will assess sector-wide needs, evaluate the relevance of MLCI’s mandate, and explore potential scenarios for MLCI’s future.
All types of libraries in Manitoba are invited to contribute – including public, school, postsecondary, government, and special libraries. There are two key engagement opportunities, and you are welcome to take part in both the online survey and a virtual focus group.
Please respond by May 30, 2025.
***Even if you are not familiar with MLCI, your input is important – we aim to gather perspectives from all Manitoba libraries to help assess sector needs and determine the best path forward.
1. Complete the Survey
We ask that each library coordinate internally to submit one response on behalf of their organization or school division. We recommend reviewing this PDF version of the questionnaire in advance to support internal coordination.

2. Register for a Focus Group
We are also hosting a series of virtual focus groups by library type. These 90-minute sessions will allow for deeper conversation about current service needs, gaps in sector supports, and ideas for the future of MLCI. Focus groups spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please register for the session that best fits your library:
- Register for Public Libraries on May 26, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. CT
- Register for Postsecondary Libraries on May 27, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. CT
- Register for School Libraries on May 28, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. CT
- Register for Specialized/Other Libraries on May 29, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. CT
- Register here for French-language Libraries (all types) on May 30, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. CT
Why Your Input Matters
Your insights will directly inform final recommendations about the future of MLCI and broader opportunities to strengthen library services, collaboration, and shared infrastructure across Manitoba.
Thank you for your time and contribution to this important process.
Note: The survey is available in English and one French-language focus group has been scheduled. If you would prefer to contribute to this needs assessment in French outside of the scheduled session, please contact us and we will do our best to support your participation.
